AB The  simplest  experimental  comparison  involves  the  use  of  two  independent  groups  within  a  randomized  controlled  trial  (RCT).  This  design  allows  the  researcher  to  assume  that  all  individual  differences  are  evenly  distributed  between  the  groups  at  baseline,  and  therefore,  observed  differences  after  the  application  of  an  intervention  to  one  group  should  reflect  a  significant  difference,  one  that  is  unlikely  to  be  the  result  of  chance.
