Our  diligence  and  risk  in  using  the  International  Classification  of  Functioning,  Disability,  and  Health  (ICF;  WHO,  2001)  in  the  first  edition  has  been  rewarded  with  nationwide  acceptance  of  this  conceptual  model  that  has  formed  the  foundation  of  both  editions  of  this  text.  The  ICF  has  been  embraced  by  the  American  Physical  Therapy  Association  and  will  be  the  framework  for  the  3rd  edition  of  the  Guide  to  Physical  Therapist  Practice  (Guide;APTA,  2001),  the  second  framework  directing  this  text.
