AB This  chapter  describes  pathology  that  may  lead  to  ankle  pain,  including  generalized,  lateral,  medial,  anterior,  and  posterior  ankle  pain.  Local  causes  of  ankle  pain  are  defined  as  pathology  occurring  between  the  distal  one-third  of  the  tibia  and  the  ankle  joint,  inclusive  of  musculoskeletal  and  neurovascular  structures  that  cross  the  ankle  joint.  Remote  causes  are  defined  as  occurring  outside  this  area.
