GABARD, P.T., PH.D., is professor of physical therapy at Chapman University. He earned his M.S. in physical therapy at the University of Southern California, completed an additional 2-year program in interdisciplinary medicine at its University Affiliated Program, and earned an M.P.A. and Ph.D. in Public Administration with a primary emphasis in administrative ethics. He also participated in seminars in medical ethics offered by the Hastings Center and by Georgetown University. Since 1978 Dr. Gabard has practiced pediatric physical therapy in a variety of settings, including in private practice and at Pacific State Hospital, the University Affiliated Program at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, Special Children's Center in Pasadena, and California Children's Services. In addition to publishing a number of research articles, he has been a consultant to a variety of corporate and nonprofit organizations. He also serves as a consultant and member of a major hospital ethics committee. Currently he teaches courses in physical therapy ethics, cultural diversity, and administration.
