(kōld-sprā) 1. An aerosol used to lower the temperature and thus harden thermoplastic splinting material during fitting or molding. 2. A vaporized chemical such as ethyl chloride or fluoromethane used to produce rapid cooling and numbness of the skin.

cold steel

A colloquial term for surgery performed with a scalpel rather than with electrocautery, lasers, or radiofrequency ablation.

colectomy
