This edition is a reconceptualization of Functional Performance in Older Adults. It has been a labor of love for many people who have been instrumental in making it the best book it could possibly be. Dr. Bonder is particularly appreciative of the excellent new editor and section editors who have made the process a smooth one and ensured a high quality outcome. She has been actively involved in the project, and grateful to know that this and subsequent editions are in good hands.

Dr. Pickens thanks Dr. Marsha Neville and Dr. Jenny Martinez, section editors, for their thoughtful work, and our many excellent authors for their important contributions. We also thank our reviewers, who offered helpful observations that have greatly improved the final product.
