Part VII: Fitness Across the Life Span: Introduction
This portion of the text provides information relative to exercising during all decades of life. Chapter 25 covers the growth and maturation processes in young exercisers and how they impact many of the training principles presented earlier in the book. Program design considerations for young exercisers are presented, especially as they relate to health and safety issues. Chapter 26 deals specifically with the physiological changes associated with aging that can impact the acute and chronic adaptations to exercise training in older adults. Specific programming guidelines for older adults are presented that focus on maximizing the enjoyment, safety, and effectiveness of training programs for this population.
